A Maiar and a Sith Lord walk into a bar…

This is a redrawing of an Inktober scratching, originally done in “the Beforetimes” of October, 2019. I’ve always been fascinated by the parallels between Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, and for a long time wanted to recreate an iconic scene, mixing up elements of both franchises. Thus, the “crazy old wizard” Gandalf comes across the fallen jedi Darth Vader, both of their lightsabers glowing (hey Glamdring got struck by lightning, so it’s technically a light-saber…) The wizard sacrifices himself to allow the callow rural youth to escape, and come back later in a ghostly form…

“So, we meet again for the … first… time. I was but a maiar, but now I am the Balrog!”
“If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine. I am the servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the Flame of Armor. You! Shall! Not! Pass!”

Originally drawing in an pen an ink, digitally remastered Special Edition 10″x 8″ giclee print, suitable for framing. Apologies and thanks to J.R.R. Tolkien and George Lucas.
